About

Withy Farm

Our Farm

Withy Farm is a smallholding and Guesthouse / B&B

Guests staying here are encouraged to get involved whether that is just meeting the animals or helping with feeding and mucking out.

We embarked on this adventure in 2011 when we purchased the Farm,

First we renovated the house to make it as efficient as possible, working towards a Passive Haus standard.

At the same time we acquired some chickens for eggs and a few pigs to rear for the freezer. A few years later and we have a small farm with a great variety of livestock, including chicken, geese, pigs, sheep, cattle and goats.

We are hobby farmers rather than commercial farmers.

Our Story

Smallholding by trial and error

We have come along way in just a few years. We had limited experience before we started this journey. We never lacked courage to try new things like buying our first sheep or cows, but we could not have done so without a lot of support from local farms and friends. We have learned from our many mistakes and I am sure we will learn from many more.

Keeping livestock for us is about what we can cook and eat in the kitchen. Whether that has been meat for the freezer, making sausages, or curing and smoking meat cheese and vegetables. The important thing for us is that we eat meat that has been sustainably reared, and has been lovingly  cared for, we know that when we eat our beef it has not been pumped with antibiotics and our pork is not bulked out with water. Our lamb and hogget have predominantly only eaten grass and hay with some concentrate to help keep them healthy.
